PUT THAT RECORD ON: AN INTRODUCTION TO JAZZ

Dave Brubeck

The late Dave Brubeck (he passed away in 2012, at 91 years old) was a pianist and composer who co-founded the musical group the Dave Brubeck Quartet. Their album Time Out was the first jazz album to sell one million copies. https://youtu.be/veX9dotK_do

Miles Davis

The Brazilian musician’s top hits include “Never Gonna Let You Go,” which peaked at #4 on the Billboard album charts in 1983, and “The Look of Love,” which also peaked at #4, earlier in 1968. The three-time Grammy Award winner still goes on tour around the world, performing in the United States this month. https://youtu.be/n9cu_wA7vi8

Steely Dan

An American band formed by core members Donald Fagen and Walter Becker in the early 1970s, Steely Dan is rightly classified by de Leon as “jazz-rock.” Fagen leads a North America tour of the band this year, following Becker’s widely mourned passing in 2017. https://youtu.be/2WTh_IEyU1w
